What it is
The kitchen display (KDS) is the expo board for food. The POS remains the till: tables, tabs, payment, and staff. When food is sent, a ticket lands on a screen at the pass. Drinks stay off that board.
It suits a restaurant or bar kitchen that is tired of chasing dockets. It is not a substitute for a till, and it is not included on every plan.
How a ticket moves
- The floor sends food from the till, or a guest sends it from the self-order kiosk.
- The pass can start the ticket, tap a line when that item is done, hold a line, or bump the whole ticket.
- Bump clears it on every kitchen screen. Recall brings a bumped ticket back.
- The clock is time since the ticket was first sent, not since a later add-on.
- Paper slips can still print. A printed slip is not the same clock as the screen.
The day-to-day buttons are in the kitchen display handbook.
Who it suits, and what it does not include
Growth (R1,699 a month for software) and Enterprise (R1,999) include the kitchen display. Starter (R799) is the till, tips, and basic inventory. It does not include this screen.
You need a dedicated screen in the kitchen. Combining two tabs clears the source ticket from the board and can print a void or merge slip, so the pass has to be told if paper already went out. Age colours are a guide (about 10 minutes, then about 20), not a promise about cook times.
Hardware lease, if you want Tavio's kit, is on top of the software price. Software only runs on screens you already own. See pricing.
