Questions

Restaurant POS, answered plainly

What Tavio costs in South Africa, what you need on the floor, and where each feature stops. The same facts as pricing and the handbooks.

Cost

How much does restaurant POS software cost in South Africa?

Software, per month

Tavio POS software is billed in rand per month: Starter R799, Growth R1,699, Enterprise R1,999. That range is the software fee.

Hardware lease

A hardware lease is extra (R500, R800, or R1,200 a month for the kit) and you own the kit after 24 months.

Trial

Software only runs on tablets and phones you already own. The 30-day trial does not need a card.

These are Tavio's prices, not a survey of every POS in South Africa. Compare what is included on pricing.

Equipment

What equipment does a restaurant POS need?

The till

A tablet or phone for the till, and a printer on the same venue network if you print tickets or receipts. Office runs in a browser.

Kitchen screen

Kitchen display, on Growth and Enterprise, needs its own screen at the pass.

In the shop

A self-order kiosk is a separate station that Tavio sets up on Enterprise. You do not have to lease hardware.

Kitchen display

What is the difference between a POS and a kitchen display system?

The till

The POS is the till: orders, tabs, payment, staff, and the office.

The kitchen screen

  • The kitchen display is the food board at the pass.
  • Tickets arrive from the till or the kiosk.
  • The kitchen bumps, holds, or recalls from that screen.
  • Drinks stay off the board.

Which plan

Kitchen display is included from Growth upward. Starter is the till and basic stock, without the kitchen screen.

Recipes

How does recipe costing work?

What comes off stock

On Growth and above, ingredients are what you buy and recipes say how much a dish or drink uses. When the order closes, stock comes off that recipe.

The cost

Cost follows the ingredient purchase price and the quantities on the recipe. If the price or the quantity is wrong, the cost is wrong.

On Starter

Starter sells products and tracks basic stock. It does not include recipes, stocktakes, or variance.

Online orders

Can restaurants accept online orders without relying entirely on delivery marketplaces?

Pickup on your page

  • Pickup can run on the venue's own Tavio ordering page once that page is published.
  • The guest pays by card on that order. Tavio does not keep the card number.

Delivery

  • Delivery on that page only appears if the venue has connected it, and the price is checked with Uber at checkout.
  • Uber Eats and Mr D are separate: those marketplace orders can land in Tavio when the integration is on.

In the venue

The self-order kiosk is in the venue, not a website. Guests pay at the counter. The kiosk does not take card or cash, and Tavio sets it up on Enterprise.

Changing POS

What should a restaurant consider before changing POS providers?

Match the plan to the floor.

Starter

Starter is orders, tips, and basic inventory for up to 5 staff and 1 device.

Growth

Kitchen display, recipes, and stocktakes start on Growth (up to 15 staff and 3 devices).

Enterprise

Full offline sync, more than one site, Tavio iQ, and the self-order kiosk are Enterprise.

On the floor

  • Printers need to be on the same network as the tills.
  • Staff use their own codes.

Before you cut over

  • Menu items and recipes are set up in Tavio.
  • This site does not promise an automatic copy from another POS.
  • Use the 30-day trial on a real service before you cut over.

Tavio contacts you to set the venue up.
